KUWAIT CITY, Oct 23: The Court of Appeals has upheld the verdict of the lower court and put behind bars the head of the department of the Public Authority Civil Information to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of 212,000 dinars (double the bribe amount he received). The court has also put behind bars his two associates, an Egyptian and a Bangladeshi, for a period of 3 years, reports Al-Rai daily.
The investigation unfolded when the Director General of the PACI received reports about the issuance of civil ID cards by the main suspect in exchange for monetary payments.
This unlawful activity was facilitated by a Bangladeshi worker employed by a cleaning company and an Egyptian who worked as a security guard at the PACI headquarters.
Suspicious transactions were uncovered through the tracking of civil identification numbers and the automated card issuance system, which provided insights into the involvement of department employees. This led to the apprehension of the suspects.
