LOS ANGELES, Nov 26, (Agencies): Ozzy Osbourne is shedding light on his reflections about mortality and the challenges stemming from recent back surgery, which unveiled a tumor in one of his vertebrae.
In a comprehensive interview, the 74-year-old rock icon expressed gratitude for being alive, considering the myriad obstacles he has faced. Ozzy, known for his openness about past addictions and overdoses, marveled at his continued existence, acknowledging that he "should have been dead a thousand times."
During his recovery period, Ozzy engaged in deep introspection. "I've been doing a lot of reflection while I've been laid up, and all my buddies, I've realized they're all dead! The graveyard's full of them! You're dead and you're dead and you're dead," he shared. "I should have been dead way before loads of them. Why am I the last man standing? I don't understand any of it."
Despite his tumultuous history, Ozzy refrains from boasting, acknowledging the numerous close calls he has had. Addressing the question of whether he fears death, Ozzy disclosed his perspective on the matter.
"I don't fear death, but I don't want to have a long, painful, and miserable existence," Ozzy explained, having received the magazine's inaugural Icon Award. Reflecting on his own mortality, he contemplated the option of a dignified end for those facing terminal illnesses. "I like the idea that if you have a terminal illness, you can go to a place in Switzerland and get it done quickly. I saw my father die of cancer."
In a candid moment, Ozzy shared a conversation with his wife, Sharon, about life choices. "I said to Sharon that I'd smoked a joint recently, and she said, 'What are you doing that for? It'll kill you!' I said, 'How long do you want me to live for?!' At best, I've got ten years left, and when you're older, time picks up speed." Ozzy's words reflect a mix of resilience, contemplation, and a wry acknowledgment of the passage of time.
