KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: Indian Ambassador Adarsh Swaika held a farewell ceremony at his country’s embassy. Present at the event were a number of dignitaries from various sectors in Kuwait, including Dean of Kuwaiti journalism and Editor-in-Chief of the Arab Times and Al- Seyassah newspapers Ahmed Al-Jarallah, Jahra Governor Hamad Al-Habshi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Mishaal, and editors-in-chief of other local newspapers. In a press statement on the sidelines of the ceremony, Swaika, who will leave on Oct 2 to assume his new position in Kenya, confirmed that he will be taking with him to the African continent the idea of the ‘Kuwaiti Diwaniya’, which inspired him and which he loves.

He made sure to visit the diwaniyas regularly during his three-year tenure in Kuwait. “We organized a farewell diwaniya for friends to mark my departure from Kuwait. I consider this a beautiful tradition that has always been close to my heart and something I have greatly appreciated over the past three years I spent here,” he narrated. He added “I thought I should say goodbye to Kuwait in a special way by hosting a final farewell party for my Kuwaiti friends in the form of a diwaniya. We did that today. I am very pleased with the diverse attendance from different sectors of Kuwaiti society -- from politics, industry, government, culture and civil society. There were many other figures closely associated with my work. I will take with me the memory of this beautiful diwaniya, as one of the special moments of my tenure in Kuwait. Perhaps, it is nice to organize a similar diwaniya for ambassadors in Kenya. It is a wonderful idea. I will do my best to make it happen.”
