No smoking, turn off the engine when refueling

KUWAIT CITY, June 24: A firefighter has commented on a video circulating on social media that shows a fire breaking out in a four-wheel-drive vehicle while it was being refueled at a fuel station in Al-Qasr in Jahra Governorate, reports Al-Anba daily. According to official sources, the incident occurred on the evening of June 1. A team from the Jahra Fire Department responded within minutes and extinguished the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to the vehicle and surrounding property. The firefighter emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such incidents.

Drivers are urged to check for potential electrical faults, including short circuits, and to ensure their cooling and heating systems are functioning properly, especially with the onset of summer when temperatures are extremely high. He also stressed the need to follow safety protocols at fuel stations. These include turning off the engine while refueling, refraining from smoking or discarding cigarette butts, and promptly moving the vehicle away from the pump if smoke or signs of fire are detected. In a statement posted on its Instagram account, the fuel station confirmed that its staff responded quickly and effectively, thereby extinguishing the fire in record time.

The station credited the employees’ adherence to safety protocols and their emergency response training for the successful outcome. It is worth noting that this is not an isolated incident. Similar vehicle fires have occurred at fuel stations in different parts of the country. In each case, emergency teams managed to control the situation without serious consequences.
