No prisoners infected, says rights team after visit to jail

‘All facilities sterilized, cleaned’

KUWAIT CITY, March 19: The head of the Health Committee of the Kuwaiti Society for Human Rights (KSHR), Dr Manal Bouhaimed confirmed after her visit to the Central Prison that none of the inmates are infected with the novel coronavirus, reports Al-Anba daily.

Speaking to the press, Dr Bouhaimed said a health delegation visited the prison in the framework of ‘the right to health for all’ – the role the Society plays to monitor, follow- up and to implement the recommendations of the concerned authorities and get firsthand information of efforts exerted by the Ministry of Health represented by the private medical services sector in coordination with the General Administration of Correctional Institutions and Implementation of Judgments at the Ministry of Interior.

During this visit, she said, various efforts related to awareness programs that started in the first week of February were reviewed and workers and inmates and lectures were organized in different languages including Arabic, English, Urdu, Bengali, Hindi and Tamil. Dr Mahmoud Al-Khaldi gave lectures to the security management team of the prison sector highlighting infectious diseases in general and the emerging corona virus and precautionary measures that have been taken and treatment in particular.

Sources noted preventive measures are made available through the provision of sterilization and cleaning materials, isolation rooms and the availability of other necessary health conditions, and the separate building dedicated for the women’s prison (new prisoners) and the separate building designated for men’s (new prisoners). The delegation also visited the building where suspected cases have been isolated, particularly those who showed respiratory symptoms.
