KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy presented a visual report on Wednesday highlighting the success of its comprehensive plan to manage electricity and water demand during the summer of 2025 — a season that passed without the need for scheduled power outages, despite historically high consumption levels.
During the presentation, held at the Government Communication Center, Ministry spokesperson Engineer Fatima Jawhar Hayat detailed the efforts and measures that contributed to stabilizing the country’s electricity and water systems throughout the peak summer months.
Hayat revealed that the actual increase in electricity demand was just 0.017 percent, a significant achievement compared to the anticipated 4 percent rise. She attributed this to proactive strategies and inter-agency cooperation aimed at curbing excessive and illegal consumption.
A major focus of the ministry’s efforts was tackling high electricity usage from cryptocurrency mining operations and unauthorized consumption. Hayat confirmed that the judicial control team had been activated to issue warnings, cite violations, and prevent the misuse of electricity resources.
She also credited the success to regular and preventive maintenance programs, which played a key role in reducing unplanned outages. Further, she praised the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Public Authority for Industry, and the Kuwait Industries Union for their collaboration in suspending industrial activities during peak electricity usage periods.
Awareness campaigns such as “Hafez” and “Safer” were highlighted as essential components of the ministry’s strategy. Hayat said these initiatives significantly boosted public awareness regarding energy conservation and contributed to maintaining system stability.
Regarding water management, Hayat noted that the highest consumption recorded this summer reached 533 million imperial gallons on June 4. However, following the launch of the “Safer” campaign a month later, demand dropped to 504 million imperial gallons, leading to a 96 percent increase in the strategic water reserve compared to levels at the beginning of summer.
She concluded by stating that daily electricity savings during the summer ranged from 700 to 900 megawatts, adding that the ministry now maintains adequate reserve capacity to respond swiftly to any emergencies involving power generation units.
