DOHA, Oct 7: The Indian Embassy in Doha has successfully coordinated the safe repatriation of a newborn baby and her mother back to India, the embassy confirmed. According to the embassy, the baby was born unexpectedly at Hamad International Airport while the mother was in transit through Doha, Qatar.

The embassy acknowledged the support of local community organizations, including Punarjani Qatar and Gujarati Samaj, which played a key role in ensuring the mother and child’s smooth return. The embassy expressed its sincere gratitude to both groups for their assistance.

Such incidents highlight the remarkable ways communities come together to support expectant mothers who give birth in unusual or unexpected circumstances, whether mid-transit or during other forms of travel.

Earlier this year, a similar case occurred on an Air India Express flight from Muscat to Mumbai, when a Thai national went into labor mid-air. The woman was assisted by the airline’s trained cabin crew and a passenger who was a qualified nurse.

Air traffic control was promptly notified, and the aircraft received priority landing, with emergency medical teams and an ambulance on standby. Both mother and newborn were safely transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.
