KUWAIT CITY, June 3: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced a significant reduction in both traffic-related deaths and violations following the enforcement of the new traffic law, according to official figures released by the General Traffic Department.
In a press statement issued by the Security Media Department, the Ministry stated that the drop in violations and fatalities is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety and promote greater adherence to traffic regulations.
The latest statistics reveal an 83 percent decline in violations detected by traffic cameras, particularly those involving speeding and running red lights. In the past month alone, 28,464 violations were recorded, a sharp decrease from the 168,208 violations reported in the same month last year.
Additionally, there was a 75 percent reduction in offenses related to not wearing seat belts and the use of mobile phones while driving. A total of 22,574 such violations were registered in the first month following the implementation of the new law, down from 89,153 in the preceding month, based on data collected through automated surveillance systems.
In terms of fatalities, the Ministry reported a 55 percent decrease in deaths from traffic accidents. The number of traffic-related deaths in May dropped to 10, compared to 22 in the same month last year.
The Ministry emphasized that these improvements are a direct result of the new law’s enforcement and reiterated its call for all road users to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations to help safeguard lives and property and ensure safer roads for all.
