KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior inaugurated a new school on Tuesday for inmates of correctional institutions, catering to both male and female individuals across secondary and intermediate educational stages. This initiative, named "Support Them," aims to enhance the educational opportunities available to inmates.
The General Administration of Relations and Security Media announced in a press release that this initiative is launched in strategic partnership with several organizations, including the Ministry of Interior's Correctional Institutions Sector, the National Human Rights Commission, the Human Development Association, and the Ministry of Education. The primary goal is to rehabilitate and restore the infrastructure of correctional facilities, allowing inmates to complete their educational journeys.
Brigadier Fahd Al-Obaid, the Assistant Undersecretary for Correctional Institutions and Enforcement of Sentences, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior. He acknowledged Al-Sabah's ongoing support and diligent efforts to improve Kuwait's global standing in human rights and his commitment to advancing the conditions of correctional institutions.
Brigadier Al-Obaid highlighted that enhancing correctional institutions includes providing a suitable educational environment that fosters skill development among inmates. This approach aims to equip them with the knowledge necessary for successful reintegration into society upon completing their sentences, thereby reducing recidivism rates.
The newly opened school, established in collaboration with the Good Development Association, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, will offer educational programs for both secondary and intermediate stages. Additionally, the academic year for teaching Sharia sciences for the 2024-2025 year was launched to strengthen the religious and cultural foundations of inmates.
This initiative is part of the Ministry of Interior's broader efforts to support and rehabilitate inmates in correctional facilities, ensuring they have the opportunity to reintegrate effectively into society. It reflects the ministry's commitment to continuously improving services for inmates and upholding the highest standards of rehabilitation.
