KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: The Department of Medical Emergency Management recently hosted an awareness-raising open day focused on diabetes, titled "My Life is Sugar." This initiative was conducted in collaboration with various entities both within and outside the Ministry of Health. During a press statement at the event, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shatti, the Director of the Emergency Medical Department, highlighted the diverse activities organized for participants.
Among the activities was a marathon designed for individuals aged 9 to 16, drawing the participation of 88 students from different age brackets. Additionally, a health exhibition was held, featuring contributions from 25 specialized agencies dedicated to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and service provision. Dr. Al-Shatti emphasized the significance of the event, noting its role in replicating the risk factors and complications associated with diabetes.
Diabetes stands out as one of the most prevalent diseases in Kuwait, ranking high among chronic non-communicable ailments and a leading cause of mortality. Dr. Al-Shatti underscored the importance of engaging in physical activity to prevent the onset of the disease. He also emphasized the collective responsibility to instill a culture of dealing with diabetes in our daily lives, given its widespread prevalence in Kuwait.
