Multiple reasons for success

The choice of Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister of Britain sparked a wave of reactions, which his predecessors did not receive, such as the Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, of Indian origin, who was re-elected despite admitting his homosexuality in a Catholic country to the core.

Antonio Costa was also elected Prime Minister of Portugal. He is of Indian origin, and from Goa, the former Portuguese colony, and we should not forget in this hurry, US Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also of Indian origin, in addition to the origins of managers of major international companies, such as Google, Microsoft and Twitter.

Why are there so many Indians or people of Indian origin in these very important positions? Why is there no equivalent in number and experience from the Koreans, Japanese and Chinese, for example, and China is technologically advanced over India, stronger than it and richer?

Why are there not among these presidents Muslims from the Indian subcontinent (India and Pakistan), whose number is close to 500 million?

There is no agreement on the reason for the superiority of Hindus in particular. Some attribute it to their open-mindedness that drives them to search, and their quest for a better life abroad. As for Chinese talents, they prefer to return to their homeland after receiving education in the West, and if they excel at home, they remain there.

Some also believe that China has never been part of the culture of the Western world, and the difficulty of the Chinese of adapting in Western countries, and if they migrate to the West, they often stay in the vicinity of their Chinese cities, China towns, which we do not find similar to the Indians, the most harmonious, compared to the Chinese or Japanese with Western societies.

Some also believe that the Indians succeeded because the majority of them are American citizens, most of them received their postgraduate studies at American universities and settled there. The education system in India relied primarily on the English language, and this makes them a preferred workforce compared to any other Asian power, in addition to the passion of Indians for working abroad, their humility and ease of working with them.

The British colonizer imposed the English language on the Indians, not out of love for them but rather to seek help from them in performing governmental administrative tasks during their rule. They also built schools and institutes to teach them, as they built the largest railway network in the world, to transport their loot to the ports.

The enlightened political class, which ruled India after independence, particularly Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, encouraged the teaching of science and mathematics. The focus in the last three decades has been on computer software. The IIT or the India Institutes of Technology, like the American MIT, also played a big role in supplying the labor market with highly specialized personnel in various sciences, and it was not surprising that the automated or human response centers of the major technology companies in the world are found in the Indian cities.

From all of this, and other reasons, we find that the secret of this distinguished number of people of Indian origins reaching the highest political and administrative positions outside their homeland is not due to one reason, but to a complex group of factors.

I have always been proud of my friendships and partnerships with Indians, and will remain so, as long as I live.
