KUWAIT CITY, April 20: Several MPs elect have denounced the decision of State Minister for Youth Affairs Dawoud Maarafi to suspend Public Authority for Sports Director Yousef Al-Baidan for the latter’s alleged sluggishness in preparing for hosting the upcoming Gulf Cup. MP-elect Mohmmad Al-Mutair finds it funny that Al-Baidan is suspended for being slow in preparing for a football tournament, which will take place eight months later. He thinks Al-Baidan is being punished for getting Kuwaiti sports out of the control of some influential individuals. He said the decision exposed the truth that Maarafiis working for certain parties.
MP-elect Bader Al-Dahoum pointed out that Maarafi is making a sacrifice for his alliances through the issuance of such a decision, in addition to his previous decision to reinstate the suspended sports clubs even before the Public Prosecution completes the investigation into these clubs. He said the higher committee headed by Maarafi is in charge of preparations for the upcoming Gulf Cup. MP-elect Mubarak Al-Tasha asserted the decision is a manifestation of the confusion of the caretaker government while revealing the unjustified desire to take revenge and instigate crises. He said Maarafi ignored the fact that he is the official in charge of preparations for the Gulf Cup since he chairs the concerned higher committee.
MP-elect Saad Al-Khanfour stressed that the decision is unreasonable because it was issued by an interim minister. He added the decision targeted Al-Baidan who is known for his integrity and efficiency. In another development, several MPselect have emphasized the need to take action against a professor at Kuwait University if proven that he discussed certain issues with students to make them doubt the Islamic teachings and the Holy Quran.
MP-elect Fahd Bin Jame’e disclosed that he contacted Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Al- Adwani who told him the abovementioned allegation has yet to be confirmed and that he will investigate the issue to uncover the truth. Bin Jame’e also contacted the Kuwait Teachers Association, which stated the issue is under the jurisdiction of the Legal Affairs at Kuwait University and the department will take the necessary measures. MP-elect Hamdan Al-Azmi asserted that whoever doubts the Islamic teachings and the Holy Quran does not deserve the honor of teaching students. “If the allegation is proven true, the professor in question must be dismissed and a case should be filed against him to deter anyone who might follow in his footsteps,” he concluded.
