KUWAIT CITY, June 7: In response to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s speech Wednesday night on the occasion of the last 10 days of the Holy Month of Ramadan, MPs took to the podiums and social media to voice their affirmation and dedication to fulfil everything stated in the speech. Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said His Highness the Amir has once again asserted that the way towards development is through the doors of cooperation and unity, while ensuring political stability locally and regionally. Al-Ghanim pointed out that His Highness the Amir has always been straightforward in terms of what needs to be done. His Highness has underlined development, prosperity and welfare as goals for every political endeavour, which will be achieved only through national unity. Consequently, the Amir stressed the need to avoid tribal and sectarian differences in order to strengthen cooperation and trust between the legislative and executive authorities, the Speaker narrated. On regional issues, “His Highness the Amir has rung the bell on what is happening in the region; for us to do what is necessary to safeguard the country socially, economically and politically,” he added. On the other hand, MP Issa Al-Kandari called on the Kuwaiti public and the authorities to heed the speech of His Highness the Amir. He said His Highness the Amir emphasized the importance of the youth, describing them as the wealth of the country and whom we trust and rely on in building the future. He disclosed that the Amir highlighted all major issues locally, regionally and internationally; while urging the entire nation to maintain security through solidarity amidst sectarian and tribal disputes. After witnessing the turmoil caused by prejudices, “this call is exactly what we need today,” the MP added. He asserted these are not mere statements but acts that we witnessed and followed up recently with the position of Kuwait at the United Nations Security Council, which won the admiration of everyone. He concluded by urging his colleagues in the legislative and executive branches to be inspired by His Highness’ call for them to be more cooperative in enhancing and pushing the wheels of development forward. He cited Article 50 of the Constitution which mandates cooperation between the two authorities for political progress to reach the required level and to realize the aspirations of citizens, while raising the country’s status in international arenas.
