MP Khalid Al-Shatti
KUWAIT CITY, April 5: MP Khalid Al-Shatti accused individuals he calls ‘promoters of shining slogans’ of working to legitimize forgery and protect dual citizenship holders by proposing amendment to citizenship law, reports Al-Qabas daily. At a recent seminar titled “Citizenship amid Forgery and the National Identity” organized by former MP Abdullah Al-Tamimi in Mubarak Al-Kabeer area, MP Al-Shatti said citizenship law enacted in 1959 is one of the most sensitive issues proposed for deliberation at the National Assembly. He noted the law superseded Kuwaiti Constitution; thus minor amendments within the reasonable limit should not be disapproved. However, MP Al-Shatti expressed reservation on the idea of attacking the law itself and said ‘it’s unacceptable’. He observed the manner of approached is so bad that a lawmaker has drafted a new law he called the national identity protection law. He recognized the presence of Bedouns in Kuwait and expressed his thoughts on the issue, saying he wishes their situation would be resolved soon and the only problem he has with the issue at the moment is the draft bill protects forgers. This is dangerous, as it supports violation of the national identity and protection of corrupt people, especially with the large number of forgers discovered.Meanwhile, recent statements about freezing the economic reform document does not mean the new prices of fuel, water and electricity will be revoked, reports Annahar daily quoting source. The same source explained the prices of fuel, electricity and water have already been approved and enforced, and there’s no turning back. They noted the decision to freeze the document has yet to be approved pending completion of the new document accepted by all stakeholders. However, the decision to lift all sorts of government subsidies has been suspended until the new document is issued and it includes the postponement of all discussions about taxation, privatization of official establishments, evaluation of public assets, raising rents, new prices of services and commodities and inauguration of new official News in Brief bodies or public authorities.
