MP queries on unlicensed charities

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 1: Kuwait commemorates the 26th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion at a time the Arab and Gulf region is rife with conflicts and division, says MP Khalil Saleh. Speaking on the occasion of the anniversary of Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait on Aug 2, 1990; Al-Saleh stressed the need for countries in the region to learn from the invasion in light of the current tension in the entire world as sectarian crises and ethnic differences are causing systematic conflicts which divide the people.

In another development, a reliable source disclosed that the Council of Ministers approved in its weekly meeting Monday the proposal to increase the prices of gasoline by the beginning of September as follows: Premier — 85 fils, Super — 105 fils and Ultra — 165 fils. Meanwhile, MP Saleh Ashour has forwarded queries to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Subaih on the measures taken against charitable organizations, committees and foundations that did not comply with the decision to close unlicensed premises.

He explained local newspapers published a statement issued by Director of Charitable Organizations Department in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Munira Al-Kandari that the ministry addressed the charitable organizations at the end of June 2015 regarding the six-month grace period for the closure of the unlicensed headquarters of these organizations and this period ended in January 2016.

He wants to know also if the bank accounts of the erring charitable organizations are now closed,  if these organizations were referred to the competent authorities for investigation, number of unlicensed branches which were shut down and other pertinent information
