KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27: Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Society for Combating Smoking and Cancer, Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, announced that the Society’s smoking cessation clinic has seen a 20 percent increase in attendance this summer compared to previous periods.
In a press statement issued Tuesday, Al-Saleh noted that the clinic provides free services to individuals seeking to quit smoking every Wednesday. He added that men represented the overwhelming majority of clinic visitors, accounting for 80 percent, while women made up 20 percent.
The most frequent visitors to the clinic were from the 25–45 age group, representing 60 percent of all patients, Al-Saleh said. He also pointed out that individuals under the age of 20 made up approximately 10 percent of visitors, a figure he described as concerning and one that highlights the urgent need for more awareness campaigns targeting youth.
“This increased turnout reflects a growing health consciousness within Kuwaiti society,” Al-Saleh said, emphasizing the Society's dedication to supporting all efforts aimed at reducing smoking and its associated health risks.
Al-Saleh encouraged those interested in the clinic’s services to book appointments in advance by calling 94704366. He also confirmed that the Society will continue operating a smoking cessation clinic at Kuwait University in an effort to broaden its outreach and serve the largest number of smokers wishing to quit.
He reiterated the Society’s ongoing commitment to its public health mission, stressing its focus on awareness and educational programs designed to curb smoking and combat cancer across all segments of society.
