KUWAIT CITY, April 23, (KUNA): Kuwait Ministry of Health (MoH) said Sunday it took all necessary measures to address spread of insects at Sabah Al-Ahmad residential city, and the problem was solved. Dr Majda Al-Qattan, MoH’s Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, was sending a message of assurance to the public that disease-transmitting insects ceased to exist in the city.

The disease-transmitting insects appeared at Sabah Al-Ahmad residential city because of failure to address waste water. Al-Qattan said the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources Affairs used appropriate pesticides against these insects and terminated them.

The government instructed the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, the MoH and the Public Authority for Agriculture to solve the waste water problem. Meanwhile, Ministry of Health organized a blood donation campaign titled “The life ahead” two days ago which will continue for five days at the headquarters of Kuwait Medical Association (KMA).

Other similar campaigns will follow to enhance the strategic stock of blood in the country, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a press statement, Director of Blood Transfusion Department at the ministry Dr. Reem Al-Roudhan explained that the blood donation campaign will continue for the next three months and will cover more than 31 governmental institutions and private establishments during Ramadan and the summer season.

The campaign will cover several public institutions, education institutions, some private hospitals, religious and health centers, private companies, commercial complexes and cooperative societies.

Dr Al-Roudhan revealed about ongoing coordination with the Indian and Pakistani communities to carry out campaigns in Indian and Pakistani schools on specific days prior to Ramadan. She indicated that the timing of the campaign was carefully selected by Ministry of Health to ensure strategic storage of blood in the Blood Bank in a manner that ensures availability of sufficient quantities of blood throughout Ramadan and the summer holidays.

Dr Al-Roudhan explained that the ministry intentionally decided to intensify its campaign during these two seasons due to the fact that people are usually preoccupied with worship during the holy month of Ramadan.

Also, a significant number of people usually leave the country during the summer holidays. During such times, the Blood Bank, just like any other blood bank in the world, might suffer from shortage of blood supply due to shortage of donors.
