KUWAIT CITY, Aug 14: The health sources said the Ministry of Health is keen to provide all kinds of vaccines intended for children from birth until they reach an advanced age, indicating that the ministry is in the process of supplying additional quantities of anti-rotavirus vaccines that were added to the vaccination schedule in the third quarter of 2017, saying the vaccine protects against this virus, which causes most viral infections among children, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Rota-virus causes diarrhea, vomiting and fever in infants and young children who are infected, usually between 6 and 32 weeks of age. The sources indicated that the cost of the vaccines amounts to 396 thousand dinars, and they are currently available in government centers, while the other quantities will be distributed upon their arrival to preventive centers and hospitals, to vaccinate the largest segment of children, at the age of two, four and 6 months.
The sources added, the vaccinations are effective at a rate of up to 85% during the first and second years of the child, and in the event of infection with the disease, it is less severe if the child has taken the vaccine in earlier stages. The sources stated that the vaccination is given by putting drops in the mouth, and it is sometimes delayed, especially for cases that suffer from infl ammation of the stomach and intestines, or cases of severe immunodeficiency, or in the event of allergic reactions after taking a previous dose of the vaccine.
