Ministry to bring team of doctors, nurses from Malaysia

KUWAIT CITY, March 15: The Ministry of Health has requested the directors of all health zones, hospitals and specialized centers to seek the assistance of recently-graduated doctors from the departments of general surgery, specialized surgeries and dermatology departments to support the internal, intensive care and emergency departments in dealing with the COVID-19 cases in hospitals and wards due to the recent increase in cases, reports Aljarida daily.

In a circular issued by the Undersecretary of Ministry of Health Dr Mustafa Redha, the ministry called for coordination with the Technical Department of the ministry, via the heads of the COVID-19 teams, to provide medical teams in order to help in coping with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks. The circular stated that, “Given the current epidemiological situation and in light of the increasing number of COVID-19 patients in the wards and intensive care units, and the increase in the number of patients in the respiratory and non-respiratory emergency departments, as well as based on the ministry’s keenness to provide the best health services, please adhere to the instructions specified in this circular starting from Wednesday, March 3 until further notice”.

Challenge
It added, “Since a year, our national medical teams have been facing a great challenge in confronting the spread of COVID-19 virus. Their efforts have been praised by the World Health Organization and other international and regional health organizations”.

In a related context, informed health sources told the daily that the Ministry of Health has begun procedures for bringing in a team of doctors and nurses from Malaysia to support the national medical teams working to confront the COVID-19 virus. They affirmed that the Malaysian medical and nursing teams are specialized in intensive care, anesthesia, and thoracic and abdominal diseases. In addition, the Assistant Undersecretary for Food and Medicine Control Affairs at the Ministry of Health Dr Abdullah Al-Bader said the sixth batch of the “Pfizer-Biotec” vaccine against the COVID-19 arrived in the country on Sunday, March 7. In a press statement, he revealed that the contract between the Ministry of Health and the global company Pfizer is direct without the presence of a local agent. Dr Al-Bader affirmed the keenness of Kuwait to confront the COVID- 19 pandemic, adding that the vaccination, besides adhering to the health requirements, is the only way to alleviate the problem that all countries of the world suffer from due to this pandemic.
