Minors Behind the Wheel, Wanted Criminals Caught in Sweeping Traffic Crackdown

KUWAIT CITY, June 22: Statistics released by the General Traffic Department for June 14 to 20 revealed the issuance of 24,983 traffic violations. During the same period, authorities arrested 38 minors for driving without a license and below the legal age, and detained 129 individuals, including 32 wanted persons, 9 expatriates with absconding cases, 87 expatriates with expired residency permits, and one criminal suspect.

According to the weekly report, there were 1,288 traffic accidents, of which 201 resulted in injuries or fatalities, while the remaining 1,087 involved only material damage.

The Traffic Department’s enforcement campaigns also led to the impoundment of 31 vehicles and motorcycles (27 vehicles and 4 motorcycles) and the referral of 46 serious violators to the traffic police station. Additionally, officers recovered 67 vehicles wanted by judicial authorities and apprehended two individuals driving stolen vehicles. Two people were found in an abnormal state and handed over to the General Department for Drug Control, while two expatriates were referred for administrative deportation for engaging in unauthorized street vending.

Among the various regions, the Capital Traffic Department recorded the highest number of violations with 6,693, followed by the Ahmadi Traffic Department with 5,269, and the Jahra Traffic Department with 4,793 violations.
