Minister approves new programs to enhance domestic violence response

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19: Today, Thursday, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, approved several programs designed to train staff at the Council’s protection centers. The goal is to improve their skills in handling domestic violence cases according to established psychological and social standards.

This decision was announced in a press statement from the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, following a meeting of the National Committee for Protection from Domestic Violence. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Justice, Health, and Social Affairs, as well as members of civil society organizations.

In her statement, Al-Huwailah emphasized the need for effective policies and strategies to enhance family stability and address violence, particularly against women and children. She called for coordinated efforts from government agencies and civil society to tackle domestic violence and overcome challenges in implementing protection programs. Al-Huwailah highlighted that addressing domestic violence and reinforcing family stability are crucial for community development.

The National Committee for Protection from Domestic Violence, established under Law No. 16 of 2020, is dedicated to protecting families from all forms of domestic violence and promoting family cohesion within Kuwaiti society. Its responsibilities include implementing awareness programs, training protection center staff, and raising awareness about domestic violence through media and community outreach.
