Classes proposed on TV, social media
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 29: MP Hamdan Al-Azmi has submitted two proposals on dealing with the current situation in the country and the decision to suspend classes in schools, institutes and universities including Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET).
Al-Azmi suggested that Kuwait TV, in coordination with the ministries of Information and Education, should broadcast lessons for different educational stages. He said the lecturers and professors at Kuwait University and PAAET should upload their lectures on social media in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education.
His second proposal is the establishment of small health centers in various public institutions for the daily checkup of employees, in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Meanwhile, some MPs including Adel Al-Damkhi, Thamer Al-Suwait and Muhammad Barrak Al-Mutair criticized the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim to a special session on Monday in order to discuss procedures taken by MoH and other concerned institutions regarding coronavirus.
Al-Damkhi pointed out this is not the right time to hold such a session; considering the tremendous efforts being exerted by the government, especially MoH. He said it is true that there are some mistakes, but they will be discussed and the concerned minister will be questioned once the crisis ends. He stressed the need to focus on ensuring zero corona-related death and to strictly enforce regulations, particularly in relation to countries with rising number of corona cases like Iran and Egypt.
Moreover, the Assembly Speaker cancelled the special session slated for Monday. He discussed this with the MPs who called for the session and an agreement has been reached for the Secretariat General of the Assembly to hold a meeting with lawmakers in attendance, instead of the special session.
He explained this decision was taken after considering a number of factors; such as the dedication of the medical crew and concerned authorities in dealing with coronavirus cases, including evacuating and receiving Kuwaitis from countries experiencing the outbreak. On the other hand, Al-Mutair disclosed that he communicated with the Ministry of Interior regarding the situation.
He suggested those arriving from Iran, who do not follow the procedures specified by MoH, must be regarded as Iranian mercenaries; hence, they should be arrested and referred to the concerned authorities.
In addition, MP Osama Al-Shaheen has emphasized the need to toughen precautionary measures for those arriving from Egypt. He added Kuwait should not take the statements of Egyptian officials as reliable; particularly since France, Sudan and Canada have unveiled the discovery of coronavirus cases among those from Egypt although the Egyptian health minister announced that Egypt is free of corona.
