LOS ANGELES, Sept 30, (Agencies): Mick Jagger, the iconic Rolling Stones frontman, has hinted at a surprising decision regarding his massive fortune of $500 million. In a recent interview, he suggested that he may donate his entire wealth to charity, leaving nothing for his eight children.
Jagger expressed his rationale behind this potential move, explaining that his children are financially secure and do not require his wealth to lead comfortable lives. He believes that redirecting his wealth towards charitable causes could have a more positive impact on the world.
This revelation stirred a lively debate on social media, with some criticizing his decision and labeling it as "malignant narcissism." Others questioned the trend among wealthy individuals who choose not to leave inheritances for their offspring.
Critics also referred to Jagger as a "helicopter parent," suggesting that his decision not to provide a financial legacy for his family might be a misguided attempt to teach them financial responsibility.
In contrast to some artists who have sold their publishing rights for substantial sums, Jagger, along with his fellow band members, does not intend to follow this path. The Rolling Stones' catalog, which includes albums released after 1971, remains under their ownership, while earlier songs belong to ABKCO, a music company founded by Allen Klein, the band's former manager from 1965 to 1970.
Furthermore, Jagger delved into the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to keep artists relevant even after their passing. He noted the success of virtual concerts by the Swedish pop group ABBA, where virtual avatars of the band members performed their songs from 1979 with live instrumental accompaniment.
Jagger believes that technology has advanced significantly since then, suggesting that AI could play a more substantial role in preserving the legacy of the Rolling Stones. He, along with surviving band members Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, continues to carry the band's torch following the passing of drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021.
In addition to discussing his career and philanthropic inclinations, Jagger recently shared snapshots from a trip to Italy on his Instagram account. Despite his fame, he maintains a sense of personal boundaries but opened up about his relationship with former ballerina Melanie Hamrick, with whom he has a son.
Throughout his journey, Jagger values the support of his wonderful family, especially his young children, which keeps him feeling relevant and fulfilled.
