NEW YORK, Aug 28: Streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify already enable users to share their favorite songs on Instagram via posts and Stories. Now, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is collaborating with Spotify to expand music integration within the app.
Recent findings indicate that Meta and Spotify are testing a feature that would allow users to continuously share their current music through Instagram’s Notes. Developer and app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, known for uncovering unreleased features, discovered this new Share from Spotify functionality. The app's message suggests users can "continuously share what they’re listening to" and "stop sharing at any time."
This feature will enable users to link their Instagram accounts with Spotify. Once linked, Spotify will automatically create a note displaying the song being played. Other users will see these notes when they open the DM tab or visit a user’s profile.
However, as Meta and Spotify often test new ideas, the rollout of this feature to the public is not guaranteed.
If introduced, this feature would build on Instagram's recent changes, including the 2022 update that allowed users to share 30-second song clips in Notes. Launched in 2022, Notes lets users update their status or share brief messages visible above their inbox on Instagram.
This potential addition would enhance user expression and align with Instagram's growing focus on music. Recently, the app also introduced a feature for adding songs directly to user profiles.
Furthermore, Spotify and Meta are strengthening their partnership, not only through new features but also through shared concerns about EU regulations. Both Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Spotify CEO Daniel Ek have expressed apprehension about Europe’s open-source AI regulations, fearing that complex rules could hinder technological progress on the continent.
