Fourth of July celebration turns fatal as man lights firework on his head.

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C., July 6: A tragic incident occurred at a Fourth of July party in Summerville, South Carolina, resulting in the death of 41-year-old Allen Ray McGrew.

Deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office responded to a neighborhood block party at 10:23 p.m. on Thursday night, finding McGrew lying in the roadway with severe head injuries. Witnesses at the scene reported that the injuries resulted from a fireworks accident.

According to the Dorchester County Coroner, McGrew had placed a large firework on top of his head and ignited it. Witnesses noted that he was wearing a large top hat at the time, which he used as a base for the firework. The device exploded, causing fatal injuries, and McGrew was pronounced dead at the scene.

A report from the sheriff’s office revealed that McGrew’s wife believed he was attempting to "show off" at the block party. Despite family members' efforts to dissuade him, McGrew proceeded with the dangerous stunt, leading to the fatal explosion.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are conducting an investigation into the incident.
