KUWAIT CITY, Aug 9: Hawally detectives have referred a 40-year-old man to the public prosecution on charges of reckless driving and self-inflicted injury after he struck his head on the door of a public security patrol car in an attempt to avoid being taken to the police station. The incident was captured by cameras inside the patrol vehicle, which helped secure a detailed confession from the suspect.
According to reports, a policeman from the Criminal Investigation Operations Department and a first lieutenant from public security were responding to a report at Al-Shaab police station. The officer had observed a vehicle driving at high speed against traffic and alerted the Ministry of Interior’s operations department, which dispatched a public security patrol to the scene.
The first lieutenant said that upon reaching the location, he stopped the driver and asked him to enter the patrol car and leave his vehicle by the roadside. The suspect, however, hit his head against the patrol car’s door, exhibiting signs of abnormal behavior.
The man was detained and questioned by Hawally Investigations. He admitted to consuming alcoholic substances and driving against traffic. He also confessed to causing his injury by striking his head on the patrol car. When asked about the source of the alcohol, he said he had obtained it from an unknown individual in the Jabriya area.
Further investigations confirmed that the accused had driven against traffic and deliberately injured himself by hitting the patrol car, as corroborated by the initial medical report.
