KUWAIT CITY, Sept 11: Al-Salmiya’s head coach Nasser Al-Shatti, is the only Kuwaiti leading a team in this season’s Zain Premier League, taking charge for the first time after previously coaching Al-Qadisiya and Al-Arabi.
Al-Shatti and his assistant, brother Maitham, have been tasked with returning Al-Salmiya to the winner’s podium after a 25-year league title drought—their last league triumph came in the 1999–2000 season, with the Crown Prince Cup in 2015–2016 marking their most recent trophy.
“This is a new challenge in my coaching career,” Al-Shatti said. “We have agreed on a three-year project with the club to rebuild and compete at the highest level. My focus is on developing the players’ mindset, enhancing individual skills, and improving our collective performance.”
He added, “The ultimate goal is to make Al-Salmiya strong both mentally and tactically. Beginnings are always challenging, but I have full confidence in my staff and players.”
Al-Shatti aims to lay a strong foundation that will help Al-Salmiya become a consistent contender in Kuwaiti basketball for years to come.
