Kuwait’s UN ambassador part of UNSC’s delegation to DRC

Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi shaking hands with DRC’s President Joseph Kabila

NEW YORK, Oct 9, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi was part of a UN Security Council delegation to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) that lasted five days, to oversee the December presidential parliamentary elections. In a press statement, the Kuwaiti permanent mission to the UN said Tuesday that the visit, which took place on Oct 5 and lasted for five days, came to ensure a peaceful transfer of power in the country, address political challenges and attain stability.

Ambassador Al-Otaibi participated in numerous political meetings with several key leaders, including DRC’s President Joseph Kabila, Prime Minister Bruno Tshibala and Minister of Interior and Security Henri Mova Sakanyi. Al-Otaibi contributed in meetings of Security Council with the Independent National Electoral Commission, many female candidates and international officials. Kuwait heads the Security Council Committee pursuant to Resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the DRC, overseeing the sanctions measures imposed by the Security Council.
