BERLIN - June 23: Kuwait's exceptional performance at the World Games continues to flourish as the tally of medals reaches 11 on the fourth day. Hajar Al-Rashidi secured the gold medal in the singles (bocce) game, while cyclist Manar Al-Alawi claimed a well-deserved silver. Additionally, Basma Al-Busaili and Rawan Al-Balhan earned silver and bronze respectively in the same event. The impressive collection now includes 4 golds, 5 silvers, and 2 bronzes.

Chairperson of the Olympic Board of Directors, Hana Al-Zawawi, shared with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the competition among participating teams is fierce, but the Kuwaiti team possesses the confidence, capabilities, and skills required to secure prominent positions. Al-Zawawi emphasized that the outstanding results attained thus far demonstrate the competence and remarkable abilities of the Kuwaiti players, particularly following their rigorous training in preparation for the World Championship. She expressed gratitude to the wise leadership, the Public Authority for Sports, and the supportive Kuwaiti fans for their unwavering encouragement.

In parallel, the Special Olympics International launched the "Health Examination" program in conjunction with the International Summer Session. Representing Kuwait's Special Olympics, clinical nutritionist Dalal Buhamdi participated in the therapeutic tasks aimed at supporting the athletes.

Buhamdi stressed to KUNA the significance of the program, which focuses on preparing players with disabilities through eight methods that monitor their health conditions and ensure their well-being. Among the methods employed are comprehensive health examinations, adherence to a healthy diet, hydration, regular exercise, and vital assessments such as weight and height monitoring, bone density checks, blood pressure measurements, and more. The program also encompasses evaluations related to eye, mouth, and ear safety. Importantly, psychological well-being examinations and physical therapy are provided to the players, considering the psychological pressures and physical exertion they experience during the global tournament.

Buhamdi's involvement in the health event spans four days, during which she collaborates with sports and medical specialists from various participating countries to conduct examinations on all players, including the Kuwaiti team. She expressed her delight at Kuwait's participation in the Special Olympics Summer Games in Berlin, particularly with the official support from authorities, emphasizing the need to further support the Kuwaiti team to achieve even greater accomplishments in international arenas.

She explained that the "Health Screening" program is one of the fundamental initiatives of the International Special Olympics, alongside sports and empowerment programs that aim to uplift athletes with disabilities and enhance their active participation in society. (KUNA)
