KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health (MoH) on Tuesday held discussions with a delegation from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to explore opportunities for enhancing collaboration in the areas of primary healthcare and child protection.
Dr. Hisham Kalander, Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services at the MoH, hosted the delegation, which included Fairuz Taqi-Eddin, UNICEF's Director of Partnerships and Resources for the Gulf Region, and Jumana Haj Ahmad, the organization's Deputy Regional Director for the Gulf Region. Several leaders and officials from various sectors of the Ministry also attended the meeting.
The discussions focused on reinforcing international partnerships and aligning efforts with Kuwait's development goals, specifically the "New Kuwait 2035" vision. Special emphasis was placed on child mental health, with the two parties agreeing to prioritize this issue in future initiatives.
During the meeting, key areas of cooperation were outlined, including maternal and child health, school health programs, nutrition, vaccination campaigns, and child protection measures. The talks also highlighted the ongoing importance of primary healthcare services in promoting children’s overall health and well-being.
The Ministry of Health underscored that this visit marks a significant step in strengthening Kuwait’s international humanitarian role, particularly in advancing child protection efforts. The MoH reiterated Kuwait's commitment to improving healthcare services for children in line with global standards and best practices.
The collaboration between Kuwait and UNICEF is expected to lead to further advancements in child healthcare, ensuring the protection of children’s rights while enhancing the quality of health services provided to them.
