KUWAIT CITY, March 10: The Interior Ministry recently released statistics on the number of licenses and vehicles of expatriates compared to that of Kuwaitis, showing an image different from what the Parliament stated regarding the role of expatriates in the congestion of roads, reports Al-Qabas daily.

According to the statistics, the number of vehicles registered under the expatriates does not exceed 616,000 compared to 1,039,000 for Kuwaitis.

This means the number of vehicles owned by expatriates is 60 percent less than that of Kuwaitis and it does not match their population — 3,308,000 out of the 4,715,000 total population of the country.

These figures entail that the vehicles owned by Kuwaitis congest the roads — 40 percent more than the number of vehicles owned by expatriates, although the expatriate population is three times more than the citizens. The report also showed a big difference between the number of licenses issued to expatriates and the number of vehicles registered under their names — 2,664,000 licenses while the number of vehicles is only 616,000. Therefore, more than one million licenses were issued to expatriates who do not own vehicles
