Kuwaitis, expats probed as co-op board dissolved

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 23: Minister of Social, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Hadi Al-Huwailah announced the dissolution of the Board of Directors of a cooperative society and the referral of the current board chairman, two former chairpersons and several citizens and expatriate employees to the Public Prosecution due to serious administrative and financial violations uncovered by the inspection teams of the ministry. Al-Huwailah affirmed that the decision is in compliance with the provisions of the relevant law, indicating the ministry is keen on protecting the funds of shareholders and safeguarding them from any violation or misuse.

She asserted that the ministry does not hesitate to take legal action against any board of directors proven to have violated the rules and regulations. She said the cooperative work in the country enjoys the patronage and attention of the political leadership as it is an important pillar in supporting social and economic development. She added that the ministry continues to exert efforts to strengthen governance and oversight of cooperative societies to ensure the sustainability of their performance and the transparency of their management.
