Kuwaiti sports community grieves the death of veteran official Asad Taqi

KUWAIT CITY, June 12: The Kuwaiti sports community is mourning the loss of Asad Taqi, former Vice President of the Kuwait Football Association, who passed away after being admitted to intensive care several days ago.

Taqi was a prominent and respected figure in the local and international sports arenas. He notably served as Vice President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) from 1994 until his resignation in 2005, playing a key role in the development and governance of Asian football during his tenure.

The Public Authority for Sports expressed its deep sorrow over the passing of the late Taqi, who also served as Vice Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors. In an official statement, the Authority extended condolences on behalf of the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, as well as all Authority employees, to the family and loved ones of the deceased.

The statement described Asad Taqi as a symbol of national sports leadership, who made lasting contributions to advancing Kuwaiti sports institutions and empowering youth. He was known for combining a passion for sport with a clear, strategic vision for development.

Throughout his career, Taqi held multiple administrative and organizational leadership roles, both in Kuwait and internationally. His work supported the structural and policy development of Kuwait's sports sector, including contributions to the National Sports Strategy and institutional reforms.

The Authority concluded by offering sincere condolences to Taqi’s family, relatives, and the wider sports community, praying for God’s mercy and strength, and comfort to his loved ones during this time of grief.
