Kuwaiti Sentenced to 15 Years for Fatal Grocery Store Incident in Al-Mutlaa

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: The Criminal Court has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen in his early fifties to 15 years in prison with hard labor for causing the death of an Asian grocery store clerk in the Al-Mutlaa desert area.

The Incident

The case dates back to March of this year, when the man attempted to flee a grocery store after receiving items without paying. According to an eyewitness account, the accused sped away in a four-wheel drive vehicle while the clerk tried desperately to cling to the car to stop him. Tragically, the victim lost his grip, fell beneath the vehicle, and was run over. Despite efforts to save him, the injuries proved fatal.

The Investigation

Security forces quickly arrested the suspect following the eyewitness report. Investigations uncovered a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior. The accused was identified as a drug addict who had previously targeted grocery stores using similar tactics.

It was further revealed that:

  • The vehicle used in the crime belonged to the suspect’s mother, who was unaware of its misuse.
  • The accused had replaced its license plates with those from a stolen vehicle in order to avoid detection.
  • He had used the same car in multiple robberies, during which several grocery store clerks had been injured in similar incidents.
The Verdict

Given the severity of the crime, the premeditated attempt to evade payment, and his criminal record, the court handed down a 15-year prison sentence with hard labor. The ruling was seen as a stern message against repeat offenders and crimes that endanger innocent workers.
