KUWAIT CITY, June 3: Kuwaiti photographer and environmental expert Dr. Abdullah Al-Zaidan documented a rare natural phenomenon on Al-Halah Island, located in the southern part of the Kuwait Sea within the Al-Zour region.
Dr. Al-Zaidan told KUNA on Tuesday that Al-Halah Island is a temporary sand strip that emerges during low tide and completely disappears at high tide. He noted that this distinctive feature makes the island a popular marine destination for nature enthusiasts.
He added that the island’s unique transformation creates an exceptional marine eco-tourism experience, attracting visitors who seek to enjoy the clear waters of the Gulf and interact with pristine nature, free from pollution and urban interference.
Dr. Al-Zaidan emphasized that visiting Al-Halah Island promotes environmental awareness and supports sustainable tourism that balances enjoyment with environmental protection.
Regarding the surrounding area, he explained that the coasts of Al-Zour are critically important for marine biodiversity due to the minimal human and urban activity. The area is home to many endangered green turtles, which use the coasts for nesting and laying eggs during specific seasons.
He also mentioned the presence of coral reefs that play a vital role in supporting marine life dependent on a balanced ecosystem. Additionally, the island serves as a crucial resting site for migratory and resident seabirds traveling along the coast.
Dr. Al-Zaidan stressed the importance of preserving these areas and visiting them responsibly to protect fragile marine life and maintain environmental balance for future generations.
