His Highness the Amir's representative, His Highness the Crown Prince, departs the United States after heading Kuwait's delegation to the UN General Assembly meetings.

NEW YORK, Sept 27: His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, departed the United States on Friday evening after heading the State of Kuwait’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held in New York. He departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport and is en route to the United Kingdom for an official visit.

His Highness the Crown Prince was seen off by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States, Sheikha Al-Zain Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, and Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai.

Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya affirmed on Saturday that Kuwait’s participation in the high-level week of the UNGA achieved “exceptional successes” under the leadership of His Highness the Crown Prince, representative of His Highness the Amir. Al-Yahya stated that His Highness the Crown Prince delivered Kuwait’s official statement before the General Assembly, reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to national, Arab, and Islamic principles — most notably, its steadfast support for the just Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

The Crown Prince’s statement also highlighted Kuwait’s prioritization of humanitarian issues and called upon the international community to renew its commitment to reforming the United Nations. The statement emphasized the need to develop UN mechanisms to enhance its capability to address global challenges, promote international peace and security, and achieve sustainable development.

Minister Al-Yahya noted that the Crown Prince addressed key national priorities, including sustainable development, regional stability, and support for mediation and dialogue. He stressed Kuwait’s consistent approach of building bridges and fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

His Highness the Crown Prince also participated in the UN Security Council emergency session on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue. He delivered a speech on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which Kuwait currently chairs, reaffirming the GCC’s principled and unified stance in support of Palestine and rejecting any threats to the security of member states.

Kuwait's active involvement extended to several regional and international meetings, including sessions with the GCC, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League, and the Group of 77 and China. The meetings underscored the importance of collective action in tackling global challenges and strengthening international cooperation.

As the current GCC chair, Kuwait presided over joint ministerial meetings with France, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It also participated in a high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. Additionally, Kuwait engaged in discussions on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and various issues related to Palestine.

Kuwait also co-hosted a high-level event on missing persons in armed conflicts, in cooperation with Switzerland, Croatia, Poland, and Montenegro. The delegation took part in events on women, youth, climate change, disarmament, development, and health.

On the bilateral front, His Highness the Crown Prince held talks with leaders from 31 countries, focusing on enhancing bilateral ties. He also met with senior UN officials and held 11 meetings with CEOs of major global corporations and financial institutions to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment aligned with Kuwait’s development vision. Furthermore, he conducted multiple meetings with foreign ministers from allied and friendly nations to discuss regional and international coordination and deepen cooperation in various sectors.

Minister Al-Yahya reaffirmed Kuwait’s continued support for UN reform efforts aimed at confronting pressing global challenges, including climate change, sustainable development, and human rights. He also emphasized the importance of empowering women and youth as essential pillars for future development.

Kuwait’s participation in the 80th UNGA session reflects its ongoing commitment to being a proactive partner in advancing global peace, supporting international legitimacy, and working towards a more stable and prosperous world.

The high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly began last Monday under the theme, "Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development and Human Rights", amid mounting global challenges and growing calls to renew commitment to multilateralism, solidarity, and joint global action for the well-being of people and the planet.
