Kuwaiti Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle Cigarettes to Saudi Arabia

KUWAIT CITY, Sep 6: Nuwaiseeb border crossing officials prevented a Kuwaiti citizen from traveling after he attempted to smuggle a large quantity of cigarettes secretly hidden in his car into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to a security source, the citizen, driving an American-made vehicle, stopped at the Nuwaiseeb border while preparing to cross into Saudi Arabia. During the routine customs inspection, officials noticed that he displayed signs of fear and nervousness. The vehicle was then subjected to advanced inspection equipment, which detected anomalies in the car’s body indicating hidden compartments.

A manual search by the inspectors uncovered secret caches filled with cartons of cigarettes. Some of the cartons were cleverly concealed under the rear seats, while others were hidden in the trunk. During preliminary questioning, the citizen admitted that he intended to smuggle the cigarettes into Saudi Arabia for sale and then return to Kuwait. Authorities filed a smuggling report, confiscated the cigarettes, and referred the case for further investigation.

In a separate incident, airport customs officials intercepted an attempt to smuggle narcotics into Kuwait by a citizen arriving from an Arab country. A security source stated that during routine passenger checks, officers became suspicious of a man in his thirties who appeared confused and anxious. Upon examining his luggage, they discovered narcotic substances—including chemical agents and Captagon pills—secretly concealed among his clothing. A subsequent search also revealed a marijuana cigarette on his person.

The individual, along with the seized narcotics, was immediately referred to the competent authorities for legal action.
