DOHA, Nov 3: Kuwaiti academic Dr. Nouf Al-Hamdan won third place in the first edition of the “Three Minutes Thesis” competition in the Middle East and North Africa, held in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Dr. Al-Hamdan, who holds a PhD in Chemistry from Kuwait University, earned the recognition after delivering a distinguished presentation on her research thesis focused on the preparation of compounds with optical properties capable of killing cancer cells and used in photodynamic therapy.
Speaking to KUNA, Dr. Al-Hamdan expressed her delight at securing third place and extended her gratitude to Hamad Bin Khalifa University — a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development — for organizing the event, which aims to help graduate students explain their research in simple language within three minutes to a judging panel and a non-specialist audience.
She also thanked the College of Graduate Studies at Kuwait University for providing her the opportunity to participate in the competition.
The inaugural edition featured participants from 17 countries, including Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
