KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: An eight-day intensive training course on electronic game development and innovation concluded Saturday, as part of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters’ (NCCAL) 17th Cultural Summer Festival.
Omaima Al-Saad, founder and director of the Electronic Game Industry Program at NCCAL, said the camp trained 85 participants in developing games using global engines, designing gameplay, creating music, writing design files and investment proposals, and learning revenue generation strategies under the supervision of a group of specialists and experts.
Al-Saad described the program’s success as a milestone for strengthening the role of Kuwaiti youth in the global gaming industry. “We have witnessed the passion and creativity of Kuwaiti youth in the electronic game industry, and this success will be a starting point for more advanced courses in the future with broader programs and newer tools that keep pace with global changes in this sector,” she told KUNA during the closing ceremony.
She said NCCAL considers electronic games and digital sports as part of a new cultural and artistic identity that reflects the spirit of the times. Investment in this field, she added, strengthens the creative economy and creates opportunities for Kuwaiti youth both locally and internationally.
The Council has held specialized workshops in recent years to support digital skills, including the “Electronic Games Challenge” in two editions, where dozens of youth teams competed to design and develop innovative games. The challenge, she noted, has been a key platform for discovering emerging talent capable of competing regionally and globally.
Al-Saad also referred to the “Electronic Games Expo Made in Kuwait,” held at Avenues Mall on August 1, which showcased games designed by young Kuwaitis. The expo provided visitors with an opportunity to experience locally designed games that combined innovation with Arab identity and authentic cultural values.
The training program was held under the umbrella of the “17th Cultural Summer Festival", which features cultural, artistic, and entertainment events designed to highlight and develop youth talent across various fields.
