KUWAIT CITY, May 4: The Kuwait Women’s National Cricket Team, led by captain Amna Sharif, is all set to depart for Thailand to participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers 2025. Before the main event, the team will compete in a Quadrangular Series from May 1st to 7th, featuring strong regional sides including UAE, Thailand, and Hong Kong, setting the stage for their qualifying campaign.
A heartfelt send-off ceremony was held at the Sulaibiya Cricket Ground, Kuwait’s home of cricket, where Kuwait Cricket Board President Haider Farman and Director General Sajid Ashraf shared messages of encouragement and belief in the squad’s talent and determination.
“It is a moment of pride for Kuwait Cricket to see our women’s team grow stronger with every international appearance. We believe in their potential and are confident they will make Kuwait proud,” said Kuwait Cricket Board President Haider Farman.
He further added, “Just like how the men’s team recently achieved success against higher-ranked opponents, we are equally optimistic about the women’s team’s preparation and spirit.”
Director General of Kuwait Cricket, Sajid Ashraf, added, “The entire cricketing fraternity in Kuwait stands behind our women’s team. Their dedication, discipline, and passion have brought them to this stage. Sometimes it takes ten years to reach that eleventh year of breakthrough success, and we believe the next 12 months belong to this remarkable team.”
Kuwait Women’s National Team Squad consists of Amna Sharif (Captain), Priyada Murali (Vice Captain), Mariamma Hyder, Khadija Khalil (WK), Zeefa Jilani, Shanti Balasubramanian, Maryam Omar, Siobhan Lee Gomez, Venora Shaina, Maria Jasvi, Bhavani, Suchitha D Sa (WK), Candice Jerica&Raelyn Maria.
The squad represents a blend of experience and emerging youth, embodying the spirit and resilience of Kuwait Cricket.
After a year of historic achievements with the men’s team, Head Coach Qasim Ali is now focused on replicating that success with the women’s side. He will be supported by Mohammad Aslam, Kuwait’s most successful men’s team captain, whose calm leadership and prior coaching experience with this squad bring significant value to the team’s preparations.
The team’s logistical and on-ground management will be led by Hasnain Arshad, a key figure in the development of women’s cricket in Kuwait.
