ASTANA, Aug 20: Kuwait’s national shooting team claimed a gold medal yesterday at the ongoing Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan, finishing first in the team skeet competition against strong competition from across Asia.
Chairman of the Kuwait Sports Shooting Club, Du’aij Al-Otaibi, said shooters Abdullah Al-Turqi, Abdulaziz Al-Saad, and Mansour Al-Rashidi delivered an outstanding performance to secure the victory. South Korea and Qatar finished second and third, while China placed fourth, and host nation Kazakhstan came fifth.
The Kuwaiti trio hit a combined total of 353 targets, edging out South Korea’s 351 and Qatar’s 346.
Al-Otaibi dedicated the victory on behalf of the club, the board, and the athletes to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah, Prime Minister, and the people of Kuwait.
He also praised the shooters’ high level of performance and confirmed that Kuwait’s team will continue striving for more medals in the championship, which runs until August 30 and features all Olympic shooting events.
