BEIJING, Oct 13: Kuwaiti Ambassador to China Jassem Al-Najem reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership and entrepreneurship during the opening of the Global Women’s Summit in Beijing, which was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and a wide range of international participants.
Speaking at the summit’s inaugural session, Al-Najem highlighted Kuwait’s keenness to enhance cooperation with China and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) through joint programs aimed at building the capacities of Kuwaiti and Arab women across various sectors. He emphasized that Kuwait fully supports all efforts dedicated to establishing a more just and prosperous world for women.
Al-Najem described the summit as a vital global platform to renew the international commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive development. He noted that such events are essential to promoting policies and partnerships that further gender equality on a global scale.
During the summit, President Xi Jinping announced a USD 10 million contribution to UN Women and an additional USD 100 million to fund women’s development projects. He pledged support for 1,000 small-scale women-led businesses, training programs for 50,000 women, and the establishment of a global center for women’s capacity building.
President Xi also outlined several proposals to accelerate women’s development, including promoting peace, combating violence against women, empowering women through innovation and technology, improving governance, and expanding access to education and healthcare. He further called for enhanced international cooperation with UN support to drive progress in these areas.
The Global Women’s Summit, held under the theme “Shared Destiny: Accelerating the Path to Women’s Comprehensive Development,” witnessed broad international participation, including delegations from UN agencies, global organizations, diplomats, and ambassadors accredited to China.
