KUWAIT CITY, June 26: According to a faculty member of the Chemistry Department in the College of Science in Kuwait University Dr. Ali Boumejdad, the infrastructure of scientific research at the university is very dilapidated, and needs a huge budget in order to advance in the field of scientific research, reports Aljarida daily. In a press statement, Dr. Boumejdad said, “We need to allocate KD 20 million to the research budget in order to reach an advanced level of evaluation for Kuwait University.

This is needed in the first year initially for preparing laboratories and supplies for research, and then the following year we may reach between KD 15 to 10 million, and then we can return to the old budget”. He stressed the need to provide a new budget for furnishing laboratories in Sabah Al-Salem University City.

Dr. Boumejdad said, “In the past, the annual budget for research amounted to KD 4.5 million, but it got reduced to less than KD 1 million recently at Kuwait University. Despite the university’s transfer from the old buildings to the modern ones, no new equipment was provided for scientific research. Even the old devices were not moved to the modern buildings, and many faculty members became dispersed between laboratories in the new buildings, and the devices in the old building in Khalidiya campus.
