KUWAIT CITY, May 15: The Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality convened on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, resulting in the decision to revoke the Kuwaiti nationality of 1,291 individuals. This move is pending final approval by the Council of Ministers.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the committee's decisions were based on various provisions of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law No. 15 of 1959 and its subsequent amendments:
- Dual Nationality (Article 11): The nationality of nine individuals was revoked due to the acquisition of foreign nationality without renouncing Kuwaiti citizenship, as stipulated by Article 11.
- Fraud and False Declarations (Article 21 bis A): In 113 cases, nationality certificates were withdrawn after investigations revealed fraudulent acquisition or false statements made during the naturalization process.
- Under Article 13, Paragraph 1, the committee decided to withdraw citizenship from 86 individuals for similar violations involving falsified information or fraudulent acquisition, also affecting those who gained nationality through their association with the primary individuals.n
- General National Interest (Article 13, Paragraph 4): The committee decided to revoke the citizenship of 1,083 individuals under this provision, which allows for withdrawal when deemed necessary for the country's higher interests.
The Ministry emphasized that these actions align with the government's commitment to safeguarding national identity and ensuring the integrity of the naturalization process. The decisions are now subject to review and approval by the Council of Ministers.
This development is part of a broader initiative by the Kuwaiti authorities to address issues related to nationality and naturalization, reflecting ongoing efforts to reinforce the country's legal and administrative frameworks.
The Ministry of Interior has indicated that further details will be provided following the Council of Ministers' review.
