KUWAIT CITY, March 12: The Council of Ministers has approved the revocation of Kuwaiti citizenship for nine individuals, comprising six men, and three women, including one American woman, reports Al-Qabas daily. These decisions were issued by the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality, following a thorough review of relevant constitutional and legal provisions.

The Supreme Committee, by the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and its amendments, found that these individuals obtained citizenship through fraudulent means or were convicted by final court rulings, including some currently serving prison sentences. The American woman allegedly acquired citizenship in 2006 and the Emirati woman obtained citizenship in 1967, along with seven others who acquired citizenship at various times. In light of recent decisions, the total number of individuals who have had their Kuwaiti nationality revoked has surpassed 30 within a week, highlighting the government’s commitment to upholding legal integrity and combating fraudulent practices related to citizenship acquisition.

A government source revealed ongoing efforts to identify and address cases of fraudulent citizenship acquisition, with further decisions pending submission by the committee. The source emphasized that the government remains steadfast in its resolve to pursue legal measures against perpetrators and maintain transparency throughout the process.

Furthermore, the Council of Ministers discussed the appointment of boards of directors in government bodies during its recent meeting, underscoring the importance of expediting work and project completion. Ministers were directed to disclose any discovered instances of corruption, even if investigations are ongoing, in order to uphold transparency and keep the public informed. Upcoming announcements will include details regarding forged certificates issued since 2000, as these documents are currently under scrutiny, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing fraudulent practices and ensuring accountability in administrative matters.
