GAZA, Sept 21: The Palestinian "WAFA" Foundation for Development and Capacity Building announced on Friday the arrival of 14 trucks carrying humanitarian and relief aid to the northern governorates of the Gaza Strip. This initiative is supported by the Kuwaiti "Namaa Charity" Association.
Ghadeer Shahada, the director of the "WAFA" office in the Gaza Strip, informed KUNA that the trucks delivered essential items, including vegetables, eggs, and chicken, as part of the "Good Caravans" campaign organized by the Kuwaiti association under the "Kuwait by Your Side" initiative and "To Break the Famine," addressing the food shortages faced by residents in the region.
Shahada explained that the food baskets were distributed to thousands of displaced families in northern Gaza, with the distribution supervised by the "WAFA Foundation." She highlighted the severe hunger conditions affecting over 700,000 Palestinians in the area, emphasizing that these convoys bring vital support to those suffering from famine. "The markets have been devoid of meat, vegetables, and fruits for several months due to the occupation's prevention of their entry," she stated.
This relief project is part of ongoing humanitarian efforts by the "Namaa Charity" Association over the past 11 months, in response to the Israeli occupation's aggression in Gaza.
Muhammad Shwaidih, Director of Operations for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in northern Gaza, confirmed that the humanitarian aid provided by the Kuwaiti "Namaa Charity" Association has reached their warehouses. He noted that the aid, designed to address the needs of those suffering under the siege, was introduced through a special computerized system to effectively reach various vulnerable groups, including the injured and malnourished.
Shwaidih expressed gratitude to Kuwait and its institutions, as well as the Kuwaiti "Namaa" Association and the Palestinian "Wafa" Foundation, for their roles in delivering aid to those in need.
Dr. Mahmoud Hammad, Director General of Health Authorities in northern Gaza, also extended his thanks to Kuwait for its generous support of the health sector, which has been crucial in maintaining the resilience of Palestinian health workers under challenging conditions. He highlighted that Kuwaiti assistance has helped prevent the collapse of the health system by providing medicines, ambulances, and necessary medical supplies amid ongoing conflict, which has severely impacted health facilities.
The State of Kuwait has been a leading supporter of the Palestinian people since the escalation of violence on October 7, establishing an air bridge to deliver essential relief, humanitarian, and medical aid, including tents for the displaced, in collaboration with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society and other official and popular Kuwaiti organizations.
