ABU DHABI, Sept. 30: In a significant win for Kuwait’s scientific and academic community, Kuwait has been officially selected to host the 20th International Scientific Forum in 2027, following a successful bid that competed with Brazil.
The announcement was made during the General Assembly meeting of the organization, currently being held in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutawa, Deputy Director for Academic Support Services at Kuwait University and Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Office for Asia, confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Dr. Al-Mutawa said he delivered the official approval letter for Kuwait’s hosting to the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the UAE, Jamal Al-Ghunaim, accompanied by Dawood Al-Ahmad, Head of the organization's Regional Office in Kuwait, on the sidelines of the 19th International Scientific Forum, which is currently underway in the UAE capital.
Dr. Al-Mutawa emphasized that this selection is a testament to Kuwait’s long-standing commitment to supporting youth and advancing scientific innovation, highlighting that Kuwait last hosted the forum in 1995. The return of the event to Kuwait, he said, marks a renewed recognition of the country’s growing influence in global scientific dialogue.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Ghunaim expressed pride in Kuwait’s selection, describing it as a reflection of Kuwait’s esteemed international standing in scientific forums and the global community’s confidence in its ability to organize high-level international events.
The Kuwait University delegation's participation in the current forum, which began on Monday, aims to empower Kuwaiti youth, enhance international engagement, and cultivate scientific talent—an investment in the country’s future.
The ongoing 19th International Scientific Forum, running until October 3, features over 1,000 participants from several countries. It is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court.
