KUWAIT CITY, May 26: The governments of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia jointly announced a new petroleum discovery in the North Wafra (Warra-Burgan) field, located approximately 5 kilometers north of the existing Wafra field.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Oil confirmed that the discovery was made at the "North Wafra" (Warra Burgan-1) well, where oil is flowing from the Warra reservoir at a rate exceeding 500 barrels per day. The crude has a specific gravity of 26–27 API, indicating medium-grade oil.
The ministry noted that this is the first discovery in the area since production resumed in mid-2020 in the Divided Zone and the adjacent offshore areas shared by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Highlighting the significance of the find, the Ministry of Oil said the discovery enhances the global energy profile of both nations and affirms their reliability and capacity in oil exploration and production. It also marks a key milestone in the continued development of the jointly operated fields.
