KUWAIT CITY, Nov 20: Kuwait head coach, Argentine Juan Pizzi, expressed disappointment following Kuwait's 1-1 draw with Jordan at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in the sixth round of Group Two qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Pizzi stated, "I am saddened that we couldn’t secure the victory. The win was within our grasp." He emphasized that Kuwait deserved to win but was hindered by missed opportunities, adding, "The chance to qualify is still alive."
Pizzi acknowledged the team's lackluster performance in the first half but praised their improvement after halftime. He also extended gratitude to his players, saying, "I thank the players. We still have time to develop and reach our best level."
On the other hand, Jordan's coach, Moroccan Jamal Al-Salami, described the match as challenging, noting that both teams shared dominance and had chances to win.
The latest round also saw South Korea draw 1-1 with Palestine and Iraq securing a 1-0 win over Oman.
During the match, Jordan controlled the first half and took the lead in the 21st minute through Yazan Al-Naimat. In the second half, Pizzi’s substitutions revitalized Kuwait, who dominated play and equalized in the 68th minute with a stunning long-range goal by Mohammed Daham.
Kuwait’s relentless pressure in the closing stages saw them create multiple opportunities, but lackluster finishing prevented them from claiming all three points. Despite this, the team displayed high spirits and determination, giving fans hope for the remaining qualifiers.
Kuwait will travel to Qatar at the end of November for a training camp lasting until mid-December. This camp is part of their preparation for the upcoming "Gulf 26" tournament, hosted in Kuwait from December 21 to January 3.
Qadsia and Kuwait Club players are expected to join the camp on December 5, following their respective commitments in the Gulf Clubs Championship and AFC Champions League 2.
