TAIYUAN, China, Sept 28: Kuwait has reaffirmed its strong commitment to actively contributing to global efforts aimed at combating climate change, through energy diversification, renewable projects, and international cooperation, in alignment with its national development vision, New Kuwait 2035.
This was emphasized by Faisal Al-Mawed, Counselor at the Kuwaiti Embassy in China, during his address at the Taiyuan Low-Carbon Energy Development Forum 2025, which opened on Saturday in Shanxi Province, north China. The forum is organized by the provincial government of Shanxi in cooperation with China’s Ministry of National Energy and brings together high-level officials and international experts to discuss energy transformation and low-carbon development.
In his speech, Al-Mawed stated: "Kuwait is keen to contribute effectively to international climate efforts by adopting clear policies that enhance energy efficiency and diversify sources of energy within the framework of New Kuwait 2035."
Highlighting national achievements in the renewable energy sector, he noted that Kuwait has launched several pioneering projects, most notably the Shagaya Renewable Energy Park, which harnesses solar, wind, and thermal energy for electricity generation. These efforts, he said, are part of Kuwait’s strategy to boost energy efficiency and modernize its infrastructure.
Al-Mawed stressed Kuwait’s focus on supporting scientific research, fostering innovation, and leveraging modern technologies to build sustainable national capabilities. He further noted that "building a new global energy system requires a genuine partnership among nations, grounded in climate justice, technology transfer, and sustainable financing for developing countries—especially considering the particular circumstances of oil-producing nations."
The Counselor emphasized that Kuwait’s participation in the Taiyuan Forum reflects its eagerness to enhance cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, particularly in areas related to renewable energy and green technology, which serve the mutual interests of both countries.
He reiterated Kuwait’s firm commitment to regional and international cooperation in advancing green transformation, ensuring a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for generations to come.
The opening ceremony also featured a keynote speech by Tang Dengjie, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of Shanxi Province and Chairman of the Provincial Council. Tang welcomed participants and underscored the importance of the forum in promoting international collaboration on low-carbon energy initiatives, expressing hope that it would help drive forward the global green development agenda.
The ceremony was attended by China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, as well as several senior Chinese officials and representatives from international organizations involved in energy and environmental affairs.
